Impactful Internships
International Internship and Cross - Species Therapy
I participated in two very different internships while at FIU.
The first, during summer 2017, was a cross-species therapy program at HAPPI Farm, an equine and farm animal rescue and rehabilitation. I worked with horses and other farm animals such as goats, emus, cows, donkeys, and more that were there to be rehabilitated. I also worked with children with special needs to help provide therapy to them. This was accomplished by both the children and animals interacting with each other and therefore have a mutually beneficial outcome between different species helping each other.
The International Internship took place in Isreal, Onward Israel, in summer 2018. I spent 2 months (immediately following the study abroad), getting an experience to work and live like a local in Tel Aviv. I interned at the Association of Americans and Canadians in Israel (AACI), a non-profit organization that helps individuals and families move and get acquainted with the lifestyle in Israel. I helped plan and coordinate the logistics for the upcoming year of events and some during the time I was there. I was able to work with different organizations and companies to set up future plans for the organization. I assisted in the office related functions and in other responsibilities as needed. I was able to organize and make charts and guides to make this process easier moving forward. was able to learn differences about how a non-profit works within different countries.
In addition to the internship itself, I was able to walk away with a new appreciation for living in Israel, the community, the lifestyle, the food, and being able to gain a few new words in Hebrew. I am extremely grateful for this experience as it taught me about life and while life was also teaching me about myself.
