Mummification

Relieving Stress, Balancing Life and Suicide prevention

In the course "When Animals Are Not Animal. When Humans Are Not Human.", it explored the animal and human interaction with the world and beyond. I had the opportunity to mummify six octopi, conduct original research and in order to do that I had to get certified to do Human Subject Research. I presented this in an exhibition and it was on display in the Graham Center Art Gallery at FIU in Fall 2016. Further work was done and I coordinated and lead a group of students and presented our own works within the ARCH Conference (Advanced Research and Creativity in Honors) in Spring 2017.

I was also able to be a voice for others including a friend of mine who took her life when she found it to be too much to handle. This was a great way to remember her and help others understand there were resources available to reach out to that could help them.

This was an incredible experience that I could have never imagined getting the chance to have done and it led me to open doors that I didn't know existed.
