One Health, Global Communicable Diseases: an African exposure
Honors College
Throughout this course, I learned about the culture, the community, the people, and myself. From reading textbooks to stepping off the plane as the world became my classroom, I spent three and a half weeks in South Africa and Swaziland (now Eswatini). We were tasked to create an innovative research idea that could be potentially implemented to better the society as we experienced it. Among this, I visited many historical and memorable locations, and had the experience to learn about where 'man' originated from right at the cradle of mankind, was incredible and yet was only the beginning of an experience that has since changed my life.
Realizing how much everything has to do with each other and how important it is that we work together is key to understanding our place in society. One health: human medicine, veterinary medicine, and environmental factors intercepting each other to benefit the society we are all apart of.
